Music, ballet, ceramics, swimming, gymnastics and more! We asked a dozen local moms about their favorite kids’ classes in the Berkeley and Oakland area, and this is what they told us:
- Berkeley City Ballet training program: classes start as young as two years-old and go all the way up to a pre-professional training program.
- YMCA swimming: Year-round aquatics program begins with parent and tot and includes many levels of group and private lessons.
- Kids n Clay: Weekly classes for kids 3 to 18 years of age, in hand-building and wheel techniques.
- Infant yoga at Yogalayam: The post-natal yoga class at Yogalayam includes infant massage and there are volunteers on hand to comfort fussy pre-crawlers.
- Classes at Habitot: Some terrific options for toddlers and preschoolers; my then 2 year-old took a great cooking class at Habitot.
- Capoeira in Berkeley
- Swim Lessons at Canyon Pool: Lessons in an outdoor pool starting with babies and continuing through competitive swim lessons. The season is ending now, but this is a great option for next year if your little one is struggling.
- Ceramics at Live Oak Park through City of Berkeley
- Ceramics at Albany Community Center
- Gymnastics at Head over Heels: Preschool classes go from 12 months old to 5 years. Recreational gymnastics begins at age 6.
- Melita’s music class: The classes are geared towards 2 to 5 year olds, though enjoyable for younger and older kids as well.
