It’s easy to see why the East Bay International High School — “IHS” for short — was voted Best High School in the East Bay by Bay Area Parent readers and Best Private High School by Parents Press. Uniquely small in size, boasting an exceptional international faculty, and offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) program to every student, this Emeryville independent school offers quality that just can’t be found anywhere else.
(For those unfamiliar with the International Baccalaureate, the IB is both an advanced high school curriculum and an educational philosophy.)
At the East Bay International High School, freshmen and sophomores complete an IB-aligned curriculum including Advanced Placement (AP) classes, preparing them to succeed in the renowned IB Diploma Programme in their junior and senior years.

Educating Global Citizens
Five years ago, the East Bay International High School was created as an outgrowth of the East Bay German International School, a German-immersion preschool through middle school. To serve a wider population, the high school is taught in English and offers foreign language courses in French, Spanish and Mandarin, as well as German.
The international focus is also apparent in a unique offering: the Bilingual IB Diploma. While the IB Diploma itself is coveted by top-tier universities in the US and abroad, less than a third of IB graduates receive the added distinction of a Bilingual IB Diploma.

A Young School with Outstanding Results
Looking at IHS college admissions data, it is hard to deny that the school has found a winning formula. Graduates from the IHS Class of 2025 were accepted into Ivy League schools, top public universities, and leading liberal arts colleges, including Brown, UC Berkeley, New York University, and many others. They also received generous merit scholarships and college credit for their AP and IB courses.
In addition, 100% of the 2025 graduating class earned the Bilingual IB Diploma, 100% were admitted to excellent universities in the US and abroad, and 100% received a Seal of Biliteracy from the AAPPL, a trusted external certifier. What’s more, IHS students include a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a College Board Outstanding Academic Achievement Award winner.

Nurturing the Whole Student
While IHS students study hard, they also play hard. The school boasts a thriving Mountain Bike Team that brings home trophies from races around the Bay Area. IHS students play varsity sports, including soccer, football, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and track and field, through the school’s partnerships with Emery High and other area high schools. Outside of sports, IHS students’ wide-ranging research interests and public service take them across the Bay Area and the world.

Bringing Academic Excellence to the Community
The East Bay International High School offers rolling admissions throughout the school year. A generous financial aid program and merit scholarships help bring an IHS education within reach for every qualified student. All that is needed to apply is a completed admissions application and a standard financial aid form, available on the school’s website and through the admissions office.
