Celebrating Women’s History Month in the East Bay

March brings us Women’s History Month, which is well worth celebrating with the kiddos in your life. Be it a fun festival, sporting event, dance workshop, or visit to a museum, we’ve rounded up a bunch of fun options around the Bay Area to mark the occasion.

Major Festivals & Heritage Events

  • Go Girls, Go Bears, Go Play! Field Day (March 1, 2026, FREE): Try a new sport at this super fun day of play at Cal.  Interact with Cal student-athletes and teams, connect with community sports providers, enjoy free giveaways, and free youth admission to Cal Women’s Basketball vs. SMU at 2 pm (after the event) at the Haas Pavilion.   • Oakland Fans Fest (March 8, 2026): A showcase for Oakland and Bay Area sports, this year’s Fans Fest has a lot of women’s sports being featured. Meet reps and players of the Oakland Soul (soccer), Golden State Storm (tackle football), Bay FC (soccer), and Oakland girls’ softball.
  • Give to Gain Walk-A-Thon (March 8, 2026): A family-friendly community walk in Central Park, Fremont, hosted by the Nepalese Women Global Network. The event celebrates International Women’s Day and honors women’s contributions. Get your tickets ($25) here >
  • Rosie the Riveter Day (March 21, 2026, FREE): A large-scale celebration at the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond. Families are encouraged to dress in 1940s attire or as “Rosie” for a roll call at noon. The event includes kid-friendly activities, documentaries, and opportunities to meet “Home Front Heroes”.   • Young Women’s Conference (March 28, 2026): The 4th annual “Queens to Be Academy” event at MLK Jr. Elementary in Oakland. It is designed for girls in grades 4–12, offering workshops led by women leaders to build confidence and leadership.

Educational & Creative Activities

  • Lawrence Hall of Science ( March 8, 2026): Celebrate women and girls in STEM on International Women’s Day! Design, build, and test hands-on engineering activities with the UC Berkeley chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. Tickets only $5. More info here>
  • Beads For Every Body (March 3, 2026): The Berkeley Public Library West Branch hosts a family workshop at 3:30 pm for creating beaded crafts. More info here >
  • BELLA Dance Weekender (March 6–8, 2026): Held at the Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center in Berkeley, this weekend dance extravaganza celebrates International Women’s Month with dance workshops and social dancing. It’s not cheap though! Tickets are $185 for a Full Pass, but they have less expensive à la carte options for as low as $35. More info here >
  • Red Lightning Woman Power (March 7, 2026): At the Berkeley Public Library North Branch, Red Lightning Woman Power (RLWP) is a Bay Area–based Indigenous women’s singing collective grounded in ancestral songs, storytelling, and living tradition. More info here >
  • Women’s History Month at the Berkeley Public Library: Throughout March, all branches of the Berkeley Public Library offer activity challenges for kids to learn about women’s achievements to earn a commemorative history button. You can also find other great learning resources here >
  • Oakland Public Library: Print out a few stunning posters of famous women and their inspiring quotes. See them here >

Museums & Outdoor Learning & Sports

  • Oakland Museum of California Free Day (March 1, 2026): The museum offers free general admission to its California History and Natural Sciences galleries, providing a great opportunity to explore the permanent exhibits on influential California women. More info here >
  • Jack London State Historic Park (March 1, 2026): “The Women of Beauty Ranch: Hands That Shaped the Vision” is a special guided hike at Jack London State Historic Park in Sonoma Valley, California, held in March to honor Women’s History Month.   • East Bay Regional Parks: Throughout March, parks across the district highlight the “unwavering strength and vision” of the women who helped create and shape the park system. More info here >
  • Collegiate Women’s Sports: Cal has so many awesome women’s sports events to attend in person in March: Basketball, gymnastics, softball, lacrosse, track & field, water polo, and more. Stanford and Saint Mary’s in Orinda both have incredible women’s sporting events, too.
