Emeryville’s New Park: Huchiun Park

Hidden away among some of the smaller streets of Emeryville, shiny new Huchiun Park offers an aesthetically pleasing play space for the public.

There are only a few play structures: a slide, a swing set, and a couple of more open-ended things to interact with, but there is a large grassy area, nice seating, and lots of sensory things to explore. As a playground, it’s best for the under-5 set.

Make it a treat

Although it’s among Emeryville’s newest apartment buildings and artsy offices, Huchiun Park is a stone’s throw from IKEA in one direction and the Hollis and 40th Street shopping plaza (home to the Emeryville Target, Michael’s, Chick-Fil-A) in the other.

A pedestrian bridge leads over the railroad tracks to Bay Street. Train lovers will enjoy the view from the park, and if you bring your own wheels, a flat path is part of a greenway that links to exercise equipment and a dog park.

Finding Huchiun Park

The 3-acre park is at the corner of two small streets: Hubbard and Sherwin. To walk from the Bay Street mall, use the Bayfront Bridge to get to the other side of the tracks, and then walk along a groomed walking path for about five minutes. You’ll see a half-court basketball court when you get there.
