Celebrate Lunar New Year at Children’s Fairyland on Saturday, February 7 & Sunday, February 8. We appreciate Fairyland for sponsoring this announcement.

The Year of the Fire Horse—also called the Red Horse Year—gallops in as a symbol of strength, perseverance, and limitless freedom, representing innovation, progress, prosperity, and transformation. Fairyland rings in the Year of the Horse with a joyful Lunar New Year celebration full of color, creativity, and community, where lion dances, lucky crafts, delicious eats, and rhythmic beats promise plenty of good fortune and fun.
Schedule of Events at Fairyland’s Lunar New Year Celebration
10:30 to 1 pm: Learn How to Lion Dance
All ages are welcome to join the pride and practice the lion dance basics: bowing, exploring, eating, tossing luck, and sleeping.

10:30 to 1 pm: Sweet Treats to Sample
Sip and sample Lunar New Year sweets—from soft rice balls in sweet soup to fruit jellies and lucky candies. With 10 acres of green space, kids can rein in the sugar rush by running free.
11 am to 3 pm: Playdough “Wonton” Making Class
Wrap, fold, and pinch play-dough “wontons” while building fine motor skills through hands-on pretend play. You’ll also receive a recipe card to make authentic wontons at home.
1:30 & 2:30 pm Cal VSA Lion Dance Performances
Lion dance is a performance art that blends martial arts, acrobatics, and dance, often performed to mark cultural festivals and auspicious occasions. Cal VSA Lion Dance is UC Berkeley’s student-run lion dance team, a tight-knit collective that has served the Bay Area for 11 years, united by culture, passion, and camaraderie.
