Over the weekend, Heather and I were at the BlogHer conference in San Diego, a meet up of 3500 female bloggers.
This is an exciting annual tradition in the blog community that involves lots of hugging, free drinks, awkward conversations, educational sessions, and an inspiring curated reading of the best personal blog posts of the year. While the trip there was quick and easy, the road home was long. A four-hour flight delay stranded us in the airport with only a Quiznos and a disgusting pizza place to provide nourishment.
Having been to this conference five times now, we know a fair number of people there. Bloggers range from hobbyists who record and share their daily observations to pros who have turned their blogs into business with sponsorships or consulting work.
Some of the East Bay folks we saw again or met for the first time are:
- A Boy and a Girl – an Oakland writer, editor, and mom who also created Nice Things Now.
- LesbianDad – Essayist, photographer, parent, Berkeley-an, and gay marriage activist who happens to work at BlogHer.
- Wendolonia – our real-life friend, BlogHer roommate, and bento lunchbox specialist from El Cerrito. Don’t miss her recent Ivory Soap microwave project.
- Kim’s Kitchen Sink – a 20something Berkeley woman who muses on the transition to adulthood.
- Midlife Mix Tape – An East Bay music lover who documents concert outings among other things
- Working Moms Break – Dedicated to moms who can do it all, but wonder why they should, written by an Oakalnd mom and stepmom
- Help A Mother Out – Oakland based diaper drive organization that maintains a blog about poverty and policy news.
- MotherTalkers – Political and social commentary, headed up by a Berkeley mom of two.
- Embracing the Absurd – Contemplations on life from a self-employed single mom in Berkeley.
- SingleMommyhood – A writer who lives in Oakland has partnered with an East Coast psychologist to create an online community for single parents.
- Motherload – Oakland mama, essayist, and Heather’s former boss from a decade ago.
Looking at this list has made me consider creating a Yahoo Group for East Bay bloggers. Interested?

Wow! Thanks for including me!
It is so nice to see other bloggers in the area. I want to add a couple, both are about parenting and home concerns. This one is an old friend and her posts are great:

Thanks for the list and for including me. There are some old favorites on here and a bunch of interesting new ones to check out.
It was so much fun to run into you “rookies” at the conference! I love that you put together this round up of East Bay bloggers. Yes to a yahoo group!
